Why Poetry

Photo of Leone Betts on the prom in Aberaeron
Leone as a child growing up in Aberaeron, Wales.

I like the hole in doughnuts
And the spaces in Swiss cheese,
I like the sound of silence
And the sense of Legalese.
So when I read a poem,
I’m predisposed to care
About the missing meaning
And to like what isn’t there.
