I have a great love of botanical painting and the detail it captures. The representation of species of plants (and animals) in a careful study can often pick out features the camera cannot. This is not to decry botanical or zoological photography – there’s some wonderful photographic work out there – but in painting plants and animals, you can draw the eye to parts of the subject that might otherwise be missed.
