This is painting depicts a dog rose or, to give it it’s scientific name, Rosa canina. It was painted in watercolour direct from life. The dog rose is a pretty flower with a lovely scent, but withers quickly once picked. Painting it is particularly satisfying in that it provides a non-photographic way of keeping it forever. This particular painting was commissioned as a botanical study for a greetings card.
